I. Jesus Predicts His Death
and
Resurrection
(Matthew 10:22-34; 20:17-19; Luke 18:31-34)
Luke 18:31 And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we
are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of
Man by the prophets will be accomplished. 32 For he will
be delivered over to the Gentiles and will be mocked and shamefully
treated and spit upon. 33 And after flogging him, they will kill
him, and on the third day he will rise.” 34 But they understood
none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not
grasp what was said. 31 And taking the twelve, he said to them, “See, we
are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of
Man by the prophets will be accomplished.
1 Corinthians 15:54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written:
“Death is swallowed up in victory.”
55 “O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. [ESV]
He came to love, heal and forgive;
He lived and died to buy my pardon,
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives!
Chorus
Because He lives, I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives, all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living,
Just because He lives!
2. How sweet to hold a newborn baby,
And feel the pride and joy he gives;
But greater still the calm assurance:
This child can face uncertain days because He Lives!
3. And then one day, I'll cross the river,
I'll fight life's final war with pain;
And then, as death gives way to victory,
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives!
